About Go Try Nature

Who's behind this, why it exists, and how we pay for it.

The short version

Go Try Nature is a hub for people who like being outside more than they like researching how to be outside. Camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, cooking over fire, overlanding, paddling, and whatever else gets dirt on the truck.

We write three kinds of things:

  • Field Notes. Mostly true stories from the trail, the river, and the deer blind. Some of them involve asking an AI for advice and living with the consequences.
  • Gear Locker. Reviews of stuff we actually bought, used, broke, and sometimes bought again. No “top 10” lists assembled from Amazon listings by someone who’s never left the office.
  • Trail Guides. How-tos that assume you forgot something, because you did.

Who’s writing

Aaron. Based along the Wasatch Front in Utah, with easy access to the Uintas, Moab, and a reservoir that’s full of shopping carts. Spends the workweek in aviation and the weekends trying to get as far from a runway as possible.

How the site makes money

Honestly: Amazon affiliate links. When we recommend a piece of gear and you buy it through our link, Amazon pays us a small commission. It doesn’t change your price. It does keep the site running and the fondue sets purchased for science.

We only link to things we’d actually buy. If something’s bad, we’ll say it’s bad. Full details on the affiliate disclosure page.

The newsletter

The Trailhead goes out about once a week: new posts, one piece of gear worth knowing about, and nothing else. No daily “deals,” no selling your email, unsubscribe in one click.

Get in touch

Got a story, a gear question, or a correction? Email [email protected]. We read everything, we reply to most of it, and we’ll absolutely credit you if your tip makes it into a post.

Now close the laptop and go try nature.
